One of my goals might take more work than I want to put out. You can handle that by not putting out the effort. But if you don’t put out the effort, it really isn't a goal, is it? It's just a wish. That’s OK. You won’t mind when you don’t reach it. And if you just luck into it you can still celebrate. If you don’t luck into it? Well, you haven’t wasted any effort. You won’t feel defeated. You haven't lost anything. Except what might have been. On the other hand, you might not want to wait for luck. What shall we do while waiting? You might figure out a plan to make your own luck. The harder I work, the luckier I get. Maybe the plan won’t look like so much effort after you figure it out. You might decide that the goal is worth the effort after all. Luck: When preparation and opportunity meet.–Pierre Trudeau. Or you might decide that just figuring out the plan is too much effort. That clears things up. If just the planning takes too much effort, you know you don’t want that goal. |

Head Staff Owl: Who? Who has the authority to authorize people to choose their goals? Whys Guy: And why? Why do they have that authority? Vulcan: The power of choosing is the power of authority. Un: The power of not choosing is the power of delegating authority. Engineer: If you don't choose, someone else will choose for you. |
