Saturday, April 28th, 2007 at 10 AM to 5 PM
Sunday, 29th, 2007 at 10 AM to 4 PM

Welcome package
prepared by the Second Life Section of TCF.

In addition to our presentations:  We have arranged two additional ways for TCF visitors to explore Second LIfe at this festival.

The Virtual Convention Hall  Everybody know that much of the productivity in a convention comes from the hallways.  So we have set up a Virtual hallway.  Your access at TCF is via a special room set up and managed by Kivac Anar (aka Code Tracer).  Details on location and times will be available at TCF.

Second Life Open House.  Come into Second Life and explore the world behind the screen.  We and our friends will be around to welcome you throughout most of the weekend.   Look for us at any of the sites in the presentations.  Look for A flag, sign, or badge with theTCF logo.    Kivac Anar is arranging for TCF participants to have access to local computers and easy installation of Second Life.  Details on location and times will be available at TCF.
Who you gonna call?  Our agent on Skype is Geo Meek.  TCF attendees are invited to call him on Skype.  You can find him under Geo Meek (North Carolina, US).  Send a contact request and mention TCF.

Geo will be happy to answer your questions about Second Life.  Feel free to call Geo before you download SL or after.

About the Second Life section of TCF

Used to be when you had a professional interest meeting, you got speakers to come there and talk.  One speaker to one speech.  We don't have to do that In Second Life.  Thinkerer Melville has called on a group of his friends to help present Second Life as it is.  (In contrast to "as it is talked about.")

Welcome sites:  The presentation pages list various sites marked with (SLURL)   If you have an account in SL, those links will take you to that location.  These sites will have people around during much of the weekend to answer questions and show you around.

Hobo Railroad Infohub (SLURL).  General welcome site for newcomers.  Especially eager to welcome guests from TCF.

When you arrive at the Hobo Railroad Infohub, you will get a welcome note with information like this.
Places that speak foreign languages (French, Spanish, German, Russian, Portuguese, Italian ...)
Where you can have combat play
How and where to build things if you don't own land
How to find classes on building, scripting, and other things you might want to do in SL
How to use Sloog to find things (and there is a Sloog giver around in case you want to start tagging.)
Where to start learning English as a second language

Sloog.org -- A searchable database of places to visit In Second Life.  The places are tagged (by users) with keywords.

Watch for this sign:

How do I find people?  Bottom of your screen.  Search>people>insert name and click search.  That will open a profile panel.  To contact the person, click on the IM button at the bottom of the profile panel.   Type your IM line and press return.

If you have at least 1 G of memory you should be able to run you browser and SL at the same time.
