Edit>Preferences>communications tab> recommended settings below.  Change path to a place you can easily find.

To adjust volume for individual speakers:
Open active speakers window. (Bottom right screen --Next to the word "talk.")
Highlight the name and move slider at the bottom.
To make the names stay in place, click on the word "Name" at the top

At a performance, you may want to turn up the performers and turn down or mute members of the audience. To mute someone, follow the procedure above and click on the "Mute" button.

Zoom (alt-zoom) in on people you want to hear.

If you are not speaking, please be sure you mike is off. Check the talk button (lower right). It will be highlighted when your mike is on.

For more help, click on "Run voice set up wzzard" -- near the bottom of the voice window.

If you notice problems with speech, turn speech off and back on.

Zoom and Roam 
How can I see things up close?
How can I look around the place without moving my avatar?

Alt-zoom

1. Put your cursor on what you want in the center of your view.

2. Press alt* and hold it down. The cursor will change to a rectangular magnifying glass with a plus sign in it.

3. With the alt still pressed, note what happens when you do the following :

a. scroll back and forth with the mouse scroll wheel;
b. press each of the arrow keys you normally use to move;
c. press page up and page down.

4. Release the alt key.  Press an arrow key to move your avatar.

*On a PC.  On a Mac, another key may be needed.
