Team up to beat the badlands

Team work.  That’s how out ancestors got to eat roasted mammoth.  Humans usually do their best work in teams.  Why would study be the exception?

Teams work best to generate ideas and to keep things interesting.  That’s why we put this skill in the venue on energizers.  We have put specific ideas for team work in the page on each study skill.  Here we will offer some start-up suggestions that the team might use to at the beginning of an assignment.

Paths to studying.  Compare experiences on these paths.  Don’t expect people to change their ways.  Consider how different paths will affect team meetings.

Explore a Chapter Clipit.  You come to the meeting with the text marked to show your main findings.  The team compares notes.  After discussion, the team marks out the badlands in this assignment.

Study Skills Ratem.  The team breaks up the badlands into parts and decides what study skill will work best on each part.  Given the study skill, the team can follow the specific suggestion on that page.

Some people may not be able to organize a study team locally with people in the same class.  That would include people with disabilities and people taking online courses.  Internet connections readily support audio and video conferences.  Instant messenger services from Microsoft and Yahoo offer free conferencing services.  The equipment (web cam and microphone) would cost less than $100.

Head Team.  Form your study group into a Head Team.  Print and cut the Cuepons on the Head Team page.  Hand them out and ask people to play some of the roles (or substitutes of their own choosing).
