Disciplined Thinking and How to Cure It

They tried to teach it to us in school.  Thinking is a discipline.  There are rules.  There are steps.  There is a right way and a wrong way.  –The Shudoffs

Okay.  We’ll take that.  That’s why we talk about thinkering.  The right way for thinkering is whatever does the job.  The old rules are for old ideas.  If you want new ideas, you better look for new rules.  Here are some suggestions about how to change the rules.

This venue is about mental aerobics to develop upper brain flexibility.

Cuepons.  Go to the Cuepon venue.  Look for a topic that relates to your objective.  Open the page and scan the items.  If an item catches your eye, ask yourself why you noticed it.  If you find this trick useful, print out some of the Cuepons and carry them around with your credit cards.

Call on your Head Staff.  Pick one of the players and ask what that player would say about the ideas you need.  Then ask how the Un and the Vulcan would comment.

Head Team.  Organize your own Head Team to include players from your Head Staff, players representing other people in the situation, and people you know from experience and fiction.  You may want to organize different Head Teams for different situations.  The Cuepons venue has a list of suggested players.

Search.  Open a search engine. Put in about three words important to your objective.  Look through several pages.  Not the first several pages.  That's just what they would expect you to do.
Resources.  Check your resources.  Start with your skills.  If you need more resources, you will probably have the skills to find them. If you already know your strengths, the Strengths venue can offer some suggestions for using them.
