| Hugh Petty | |
| Character and Backstory |
Hugh is the young, eager, earnest social director at Happy Acres
Retirement Home, where Older the Elder and Letitia Sludberry live
next door to each other. He was probably a student at the local
seminary before he came to Happy Acres. He is quite prim and
proper. Probably very religious and easily embarrassed by
sexual references, especially in mixed company. He will,
however, try to hide his religion and sexual hang-ups from the
residents. Not always with success. Hugh has various sideline jobs, added as needed for story lines. He is a reporter (stringer) for his home-town newspaper. About the double entendre in the dialog: He may notice it with initial puzzlement and later embarrassment, and with an effort to change the subject or to insert clarifying language. |
